What If Your Competitor Believes Something Different

first_imgYou have strong beliefs. More like convictions, really. You believe these things so strongly that you are not only unwilling to change, you are unwilling to even consider alternatives. Some of these beliefs may serve you, but sometimes they are your undoing.Too Hard to WinYou believe that your dream client is too difficult a prospect to win. Because they already have a partner, you believe that they aren’t going to change any time soon. You believe that your time is better spent on more receptive prospects, even if they aren’t the kind for whom you do your best work or provide you much in the way of sales.Your competitor believes that the same dream client you are ignoring is worth pursuing, worth nurturing, and worth winning over time.Works Starts on MondayYou believe that your week starts on Monday. You believe that you start the day in your inbox, replying to all the requests for your time and attention that piled up over the last week. You believe that you can decide what to do next after you get caught up on your emails, and that what has your attention will be what most needs to be done.Your competitor believes that their week starts on Sunday and walks into work Monday morning with a plan to take action on their highest priorities as soon as they walk in that door.Cold Calling Doesn’t WorkYou believe that cold calling is ineffective. You believe that you shouldn’t have to prospect, that marketing ought to provide you with all of the leads and opportunities you need. You believe that you can make your number using only the social channels and email.Your competitor believes that they can pick up the phone and schedule an appointment with the same prospects you refuse to call. This RFP is an OpportunityYou believe that an RFP is a real opportunity for new business. You believe a request for proposal should command whatever time and attention necessary, regardless of the fact that you have close to zero chance of winning it. You believe that your response can differentiate you from the other responses that look very much like yours.Your competitor believes that the 80 hours it would take to respond to an unsolicited RFP would be better invested prospecting, nurturing their dream clients, or taking care of their existing clients.Buyer Care Most About PriceYou believe that your prospective client is going to make their decision based on price. You believe price is the factor that will override all other factors. You believe that there is no way to win without beating your competitors on price.Your competitor believes that that same prospect is going to work with someone they know, like, and trust. They believe the overall value and the relationship will be the decision criteria the prospect will use to decide. You are entitled to your beliefs. Your competitors are entitled to their beliefs. You have noting to worry about unless their beliefs are more empowering and more closely reflect the truth. Essential Reading! Farm bankruptcies on the rise in Upper Midwest

first_imgMINNEAPOLIS — The number of farms filing for bankruptcy is increasing across the Upper Midwest, following low prices for corn, soybeans, milk and beef, according to a new analysis from the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. The analysis found that 84 farms filed for bankruptcy in Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana in the 12 months that ended in June. That’s more than double the number over the same period in 2013 and 2014.“Current price levels and the trajectory of the current trends suggest that this trend has not yet seen a peak,” said Ron Wirtz, an analyst at the Minneapolis Fed.The increase in Chapter 12 filings reflect low prices for corn, soybeans, milk and beef, The Star Tribune reported. The situation has gotten worse for farmers since June because of the retaliatory tariffs that have closed the Chinese market for soybeans and held back exports of milk and beef. Chapter 12 bankruptcy allows for repayment of debt over three years.“Dairy farmers are having the most problems right now,” said Mark Miedtke, the president of Citizens State Bank in Hayfield. “Grain farmers have had low prices for the past three years but high yields have helped them through. We’re just waiting for a turnaround. We’re waiting for the tariff problem to go away.”Miedtke said the underlying problem began before the trade issues, with farmers being too efficient for their financial good and demand not keeping pace with the production.“The picture could start changing this spring,” Miedtke said. “We do what we can to try to work with farmers.”___Information from: Star Tribune, http://www.startribune.comThe Associated Presslast_img read more

Urban Meyer Im very disappointed in Evan Spencers comments about top teams

OSU coach Urban Meyer watches the Buckeyes during a game against Purdue Nov. 2 at Ross-Ade Stadium. OSU won, 56-0.Credit: Ritika Shah / Asst. photo editorOhio State junior wide receiver Evan Spencer made national headlines Monday when he told the media he thought OSU’s football team could “wipe the field” with the top ranked teams in college football.Although Spencer acknowledged he was “a little bit biased” before making that comment, and chuckled as he said it, OSU coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday he was displeased with what Spencer said.“I’m very disappointed. I can’t stand that,” Meyer said during Tuesday’s Big Ten teleconference. “What he believes and what goes on inside the locker room certainly doesn’t need to be in the papers and all that. I just don’t, I don’t like disrespecting other teams.”Meyer said the media should not expect Spencer to be available for a comment for a “long, long time” as a result of what the wide receiver said Monday.“You don’t do that, that’s not good sportsmanship and that’s not just what we expect,” Meyer said. “I understand he’s a young man that made a minor mistake but we just don’t do that. You talk about your teammates, you talk about the team and move on.”Spencer, who has caught 21 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns for the Buckeyes this season, apologized for his comments Monday via Twitter.“I did not mean to disrespect any FB team today. I am confident in my team, and as is evident in the video (of the interview), I was having fun…” Spencer’s first tweet read. “… With the media answering their questions. I should have chosen my words more wisely. There was no intent to disrespect any other team,” he finished. The No. 3-ranked Buckeyes (9-0, 5-0) are looking to remain undefeated and tie the school record for most consecutive wins at 22 with a victory against Illinois (3-6, 0-5) Saturday.“We’ve not spent much time talking about (tying the record) … we’ll address that probably if that does occur,” Meyer said. “That’s certainly not something we’re using as motivation right now but I think any time a player plays at a place like Ohio State and you can make a name or a dent in this great tradition that it’s certainly worth being recognized for it.” read more

Review Bayer Leverkusen – Bayern Munich

first_imgThe first DFB Pokal semi-final wasn’t a contest. Bayer Leverkusen did its best to stay in play, but Bayern Munich was simply too good. Thomas Muller registered a hat-trick in the 6-2 win at the BayArena.Heiko Herrlich made two changes from the weekend 4-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Karim Bellarabi was in the starting lineup instead of Leon Bailey. Also Jonathan Tah, who was rested on Saturday, was back at center back with Benjamin Henrichs returning to the bench. Julian Brandt was on the other side of Bellarabi, with Kevin Volland leading the attack. Jupp Heynckes rested more players over the weekend. Jerome Boateng, Javi Martinez, Robert Lewandowski, Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben are the players who were on the bench in the 5-1 victory versus Borussia Monchengladbach and started this one. Thomas Muller was Bayern’s captain on the night.Bayern was off to a flying start with a goal in the 3rd minute. Boateng sent a great ball in the box that landed straight on the head of Thomas Muller. Bernd Leno managed to save his close-range effort, but couldn’t get his hands on the rebound. After Muller’s header, the ball came to Javi Martinez, who struck it into the angle and the visitors took the lead. Lewandowski was in front of Leno in an offside position when the ball was shot, but didn’t seem to touch it. You could argue that he interfered with the play, since he obstructed Leno’s view. The referee discussed it with the replay crew and kept quiet. By the 10th minute it was already 2-0 for the Bavarians. Ribery dribbled past two defenders and found a wide open Lewandowski. He took it first-time, into the opposite corner and into the net. The game was quickly running away from The Pharmacists. In the 16th minute, Leverkusen reduced the lead with a scrappy goal. Bayern’s players had their arms up in the air waiting for a referee whistle that never came. Following a Bayer set piece cross, a couple of players fell on the ground, two Bayern defenders tried to clear the ball, which ricocheted off Boateng’s head and went high in the air. Lars Bender was its lucky recipient and made the most of the situation by putting one past Ulreich. The home team was a bit rattled following the two early goals, so Bender’s header really helped it recover and gain confidence. Bellarabi fired a phenomenal shot in the 37th minute. Unfortunately for him, Bayern’s goalie was up to the task.Despite the lack of chances, we saw goals and an entertaining first half. Most of Bayern’s attacks were going through the wings, while Leverkusen was anticipating counter attacks and looked dangerous whenever on the ball.Retsos, who was on a yellow card, left the pitch before the second half kicked off and was replaced by Leon Bailey. Rafinha substituted Alaba on the other side. First Volland and then Bellarabi had excellent opportunities to even the scoring in the 5th minute of the second period. Volland’s shot was blocked and Ulreich saved Bellarabi’s attempt. Bayern was quick to punish Leverkusen for their misses. Tah lost sight of Muller. Thiago Alcantara found him with an excellent pass and Bayern’s captain tonight finished clinically as only he can, renewing his team’s 2-goal advantage. Volland scored two thirds into the game, but his goal was rightfully disallowed for a clear offside.Soon after that, Ribery found Robben with a superb pass. The Dutchman slipped and fell inside the penalty area. Thiago Alcantara was first on the ball and scored with a sublime finish that followed an intelligent dummy move. He made it look so easy. It was all over in the 65th minute when Muller scored his second goal of the fixture, even though he didn’t mean to. It was a lightning strike by Munich. Ribery to Rafinha to Robben and into the net off Muller. He tried to jump over the ball in order to avoid contact thinking he was in an offside position. However, he failed to do so. The ball went off his foot and into the net, but he actually wasn’t in an illegal position, as Havertz was standing near the goal line. Heynckes’ men went from the pressure zone to the comfort zone in a matter of minutes.Leon Bailey scored superbly from a free kick in the 73rd minute to make it 5-2. This youngster is a star in the making. Thomas Muller got his hat-trick in the 79th minute, when Thiago Alcantara found him with a fantastic pass from a free kick from around midfield. Number 25 tucked the ball in, shielded it from the defender and executed calmly in typical Muller fashion. It ended 6-2. Bayern’s treble dream remains alive. With 11 goals in 2 matches, it appears to be peaking at just the right time. Real Madrid, beware!last_img read more
